Happy Valentine's Day! Get a Load of These Cuties! I Love Them, So!

They are all such good sports! I bought these for fun to try out-they are so gross and hilarious! I didn't think they'd be crazy about them, but they LOVED them!  Some students NOT pictured asked that their faces not be involved in any photo displayed. We have so much fun.  Thanks for filling my days with these Love Bugs.

3rd Grade STAYCATION 2016!

It has been SUCH a fun and exciting learning day!  We began with Mad Science this morning-ask your kiddo about all of the cool things we saw and learned about today!  Next, we moved on to some group work with a Rainbow Milk Science Experiment.  Then, the kids were challenged with a quick STEM project.  Using only tape, one sheet of card stock, and straws, they had to make a maze that a marble had to go through (with 2 dead ends).  I am so impressed with their creativity!  Below are some pics of the fun!

We just....."Keep-A-Rollin'!"

Hi, There, Folks!

Just wanted to get you all up to speed on all of the happenings in our classroom!

We have a designated library time of Thursdays from 1:30-2:00 each week! TAG LA friends will have the opportunity to go at other designated times throughout the day.

We have been learning how to add and subtract on a number line in math and will be using the CUBES strategy all year to help the kids isolate important information in word problem solving. This gets tougher as the problems become multi-step.

We have been learning a LOT about Matter and have had some really exciting labs!  Ask your kiddo about it!

Since the first day of school, as a class, we have read Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen, Home of the Brave, by Katherine Applegate.  We are now reading The One and Only Ivan, also by Katherine Applegate.  This is based on a true story of a silver back gorilla that was kept in captivity for 27 years.  The story is told from Ivan's point of view and is a beautiful and powerful story about hope, love, and resilience.

Our first Words Their Way spelling test will be THIS Friday!

Important dates coming soon!

Wednesday, September 28 is Early Release.  Please be sure you have made arrangements for your child that day as class ends at 12:00pm.  New this year, all school lunches on Early Release will only be sack lunches when purchased from the cafeteria.  Please plan accordingly so the kids will not be surprised.  We will also be eating in the classroom.

Thursday, September 29, Dragon Tales is coming to OTE!  Football players from RRHS will come by and read to students and talk to students about the importance of reading!

Friday, September 30, author Dan Tate will visit our school at 8:00am for our third graders!

Monday, October 10-No school, Elementary Conference Day!  I will be sending a sign up genius for you all to choose a time.  Stay tuned!  Please remember, conferences are only 15-20 minutes long!

September Newsletter

Happy, September Third Grade Families!

It has been a  pleasure getting to know all of the new faces in our classrooms! We have hit the ground running and are working hard!

Homework-
Language Arts: It is the expectation that students read a minimum of 20 minutes per evening at home. We will be sending a reading log home for your child to complete and you to initial.

If your child needs a book, please let their teacher know! We can assist with finding books of interest and helping to pick a library book to take home!

Math Homework will consist of practicing multiplication facts, problem solving, and working on specified math links at home.

Reading and Math homework will  will be sent home each Friday and will need to be returned on Thursday of each week.

Morning Arrival-Students have been doing a great job coming into the building, SAFELY, RESPECTFULLY, AND RESPONSIBLY. Students that enter the building at 7:15 may go to the cafeteria to eat breakfast OR head to the classroom and wait in the hallway silently, until 7:30. Students are monitored by staff at all times.  At 7:30 students enter the room and we begin morning work.

Spanish Classes/Specials-
We are excited about the enthusiasm our students have expressed in learning Spanish.  As we work to provide the best learning experience in implementing the new program, we have collaboratively decided to remove the Spanish class from the specials rotation and offer it to all classes at a designated time of day during the week.  Your child's classroom will continue to have the opportunity to participate in Spanish for fifty minutes once per week.  We have coordinated a schedule that will ensure your child does not miss any instructional time from other academic areas.  The new schedule will take effect on Tuesday, September 6th.

School Start/End Time- The Elementary school day begins at 7:40 and ends at 7:50. If you have a change in transportation, please send a note with your student and call the office to make them aware.  We in turn, will make sure they go where they are needed to be.

Important Dates- Please mark your calendars for the following dates:
September 20-Back to School Night
September 28- Elementary Early Release
October 10-Parent/Teacher Conference Day/No school for students

Reminders:
Please be sure your child has a snack each day to bring to school.

A light jacket or sweater is also recommended for the classroom as sometimes it gets a bit chilly.

Please visit our third grade sites for any information or updates.  Also, feel free to contact your child's teacher at anytime for questions or clarification!

Thank you!

If you haven't already, please click on the link below and fill out the online parent contact form. If you would prefer a hard copy of a contact form, just let me know and I'll get it to you!

Thanks again for sharing your sweet babies with me!
